Minutes of the OHSFCA Meeting 12/7/01

Meeting called to order by President Steve Gilbert.  Each Director and Officer introduced himself in lieu of a roll call.

Jim Tressel/Bob Tucker – OSU

            Spoke about location of the OHSFCA Hall of Fame in Ohio Stadium.  He wants to work with us to make the HOF better.  OSU to sponsor the HOF Banquet.  Possibility the dinner could be the Friday night dinner at the OSU Clinic.  Will meet with the HOF Committee to see what direction to go – shirt/tie or more casual rib dinner.  Wants to bring back former HOF classes to each new induction.  Maurice Hall is a finalist for NFF Scholar Athlete.  Congratulations to the OSU staff by the OHSFCA for victory over Michigan.  Discussion concerning tying the OSU Camp into the All Star Classic.

John McAllister – Recruiting

            Recruiting is going fine.  Cards went out earlier.  January is a big time for junior recruiting.  Jack Rose asked how many players had early commitments.

Rob Bruschetta – Wilson

            Passed out notebooks to directors.  Passed around new footballs – 1003.  Wilson is proud to be Ohio’s football.  Gerald suggested we talk to Wilson concerning ball contract due to some concerns in the language.  Mike spoke about using the 1003 in practice.

Henry Zaborniak – OHSAA

            Spoke about success of the playoffs this year.  Discussed ejections of players/coaches.  Football ejections  ’97 – 265 players: ’01 164 players.  ’97 – 36 coaches: ’01 – 16 coaches (10 were JV or lower).  Henry said 3800 all session tickets sold – most ever.  Playoffs set a record attendance – 63,000.

John Raphael – Ohio All Star Classic

Game date set for June 22, 2002.  Negotiating TV contract with ONN and Insight.  Currently have 17 Commitments for sponsorships.  Discussed financial problems from 2001 game.

Wally Hood – Site Coordinator Ohio All Star Classic

            Coaches report June 15^th – Players report the 16^th Wally needs help from directors to get all paperwork completed.  Media luncheon will be at Hilton February 7^th 11:00 am.

            Needs coaches to write articles for web newsletter.  Want to put recruiting nights on website, Contact

Dick Kerschbaum – Membership Report

            Membership totals at 2631.  This is up over 300 from last year. Discussion to let coaches join late at Regional Meetings with late fee of $50 and not being able to vote at that meeting.  May require a vote at the clinic.

John Nemec – Big 33 Update

            Big 33 press conference will be held February 22^nd.  Ohio sendoff Friday July 12^th, game is Saturday, July 20^th.

OHSAA SEI Award

            Gerald Cooke – Watkins Memorial selected as OHSFCA winner of OHSAA SEI Award.

Art Teynor Award

            Winner of the 2001 Art Teynor Award is Joel Penton from Van Wert High School.
