OHSFCA MINUTES 12/6/02
Meeting called to order at 10:00a.m. by President Gerald Cooke. Mike Mauk led the group in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. All directors introduced themselves in lieu of roll call.
OHSAA ReportCommissioner Clair Muscaro expressed his feelings that the championship weekend was a great success.
Henry Zaporniak passed out championship for each director, and a stat sheet from the NFFHS. Ejections were up from 16-20 in 2002.
Unofficial count of atttendance at the State Championship Weekend was 66,000. More all-session passes were sold than ever. 2003 Championships will be in Stark County.
All-Star ClassicJohn Raphael discussed the progress of the All-Star Classic. The game will be played on Saturday, June 21st at the Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. The game will be televised by ONN.
Paul Condy-High School Sports ProductionsPresented a program to publish a pre-season guide of every high school football program in the state.
Wilson-Rob PruschettaPassed out info to all directors. Discussed products in Wilson line. Discussed problems concerning 1003 brought out by coaches. Spike brought out OHSFCA concern that balls are not carrying the OHSAA stamp, like basketballs do. No resolution at this time.
Membership Report-DickDick discussed the membership report. Membership is up about 100 members from 2001.
OHSFCA/Reebok Clinic-Mike/GeraldGerald asked each director to ask their alternates if they would like to help with the clinic.
Mike said speakers were coming along well. He asked if any of our directors would like to speak at the Indiana HS Coaches clinic.
One weight company wants to be a corporate spoinsor, excluding all other weight companies.
OSU Report-Jim TressellDiscussed having a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new OHSFCA Hall of Fame. Will continue the Hall of Fame Banquet as part of the clinic. Coach Tressell spoike about the positives being generated by football in Ohio.
Letters of CommunicationSteve Gilbert received a letter concerning a class on sportsmanship and ethics to be used for graduate credit. Jim Reimueller received information from Ted Ginn from Glenville concerning their situation with the playoffs.
Committee Reports
Constitution-ReimuellerUpdating constitution-will have copies at February meeting.
Scholarship-TrivissonnoApplications are out. Remind applicants to send picture. Number of scholarships to be determined later.
Hall of Fame-BarreInductees for 2003 have been selected-Dave Lucas, J>D>Graham, Paul Nestor, John Dipietro, Vern Long, and Bob Lutz. New class for 2004 will be selected in June. Need nominees. These are the number of nominees from each region:1-7; 2-7; 3-3; 4-2; 5-6; 6-3; 7-5; 8-0; -3; 10-6; 11-3; 12- 0; 13-1; 14-1; 15-2; 16-2.
Ballot/Nomination-HintonContacting North directors to run for 2nd VP. Even numbered regions are up for elections.
Ethics-CookeNeed to selct OHSAA/SEI Award winner. Brought up the idea to honor one (1) student/athlete from each high school for sportsmanship.
OSU Clinic-Wasserman11 coaches to speak at clinic. Encourage coaches to include on field sessions.
Big 33-NemecSeveral good players did not attend last year. Need to look intogetting a note from former players to encourage our best players to participate. Concerns about officiating. Press conference scheduled for Friday February 21st at 10:00 a.m. in The recruiting room at Ohio Stadium. The game will be help on July 19th.
Publication-BarreRecommended we get invloved with Ohio Yearbook project.
Football Rules-KerschbaumAnyone wishing to push for a rule change must get theinfo to Dick or Henry by September 1st in order to get it on the NHFS Agenda.
Awards-ChannellReminded everyone which forms should be sent to themembership.
Computer Playoffs-BucciWill meet with the OHSAA on January 16th at 2 p.m. at the Hilton. Discussed the Glenville situation. Concerns with teams canceling a game to help them get into the playoffs. Discussion of whether distance or field surface is most important. Committee felt that field conditions were more important. Discussed the possibility of pre-drawing brackets. Committee recommended turf fields over grass for state championship games. Would like to see the higher seeded team in the bracket be the home team throughout the regionsl tournament.
Budget/Finance-DlugoszSome improvement last year. Starting time will be moved to7:00p.m. to help media. Will make some changes in timing of the game to short the game some. Bob explained these changes.

Moving hall of Fame to Ohio Stadium. We will have a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday of OSU Clinic. Invite back all former HOF members for the ceremony.
Reebok contract was discussed. Gerald explained the changes. Motion Bucci; 2nd Davis to approve the changes. Motion passed.
New BusinessGerald discussed attendance at June meeting. With so many absent, it made doing business difficult. Directors should send someone in their plance if they cannot attend. That is why we have alternate directors.
Membership goal for 2003. OHSFCA set a goal of 3000 members, and 80% of all schools having at least one (1) member.
Booklet for all directors and alternates to be put together. Dick will put this together and have by the june meeting. All directors are to send their information and their alternate’s ASAP.
Gold Card Coach of the Year. Motion by Jim Barre to carry this plan out as discussed earlier in the meeting. 2nd John Nemec. Ballot committee suggested we have a write-in ballot this year. Motion passed.
Jim Barre suggested we send a fruit basket to Tom Farbizo and a thank you for his help with the Hall of Fame. Dick will take care of this.
Jim asked Dick to write to Kerry Coombs concerning the proposal he put forward on changes for summer practice.
