OHSFCA Board of Directors Meeting Minutes for

04/25/02

 

Meeting called to order by President Steve Gilbert at 3:14 p.m.  Members introduced themselves, Paul Yunker, region 1 alternate attended for Doug Pearson.

 

 

OHSAA – Henry Zaborniak

Discussed new regional breakdowns for 2002.  Mentioned ejections were lower than previous years.  Only 16 coaches were ejected from games and only 6 were in varsity contests.  Wilson 1001, 1003, and 1005 have been adopted for the 2002 football tournament.  However any Wilson football can be used.  Ohio has proposed to experiment with two rules for the 2002 season.  Offensive pass interference will be a 15-yard penalty and no loss of down.  Post scrimmage kick enforcement will be penalized from the point of the catch on all scrimmage kicks.  There was some discussion on regional assignments.

 

 

Riddell All-American – Don Gleisner

Discussed the new developments in helmet technology.  He showed a film, which explained the research, which led to this development.  He explained that letters concerning this helmet would be sent to every superintendent, principal, and athletic director.  There was much discussion about the liability of coaches regarding this helmet.

 

 

Thom McDaniels

Thom related his concerns regarding scheduling difficulties of a group of schools that are looking at going together to form a league.  There was much discussion concerning different solutions and problems.  The computer playoff committee will study this and report to the June meeting.

 

 

Bob Schroeder – Everything Teen

Bob discussed items he sells as gifts and fundraisers.  His group will donate 100 mini helmets as gifts for the All-Star players and Coaches.

 

 

John McCallister

Gave an update on his recruiting services.  57% of Ohio coaches respond to his mailing.  He will put pictures in his magazine in August.

 

Dick Kerschbaum – Membership Report

Disk discussed the membership report.  Currently we have 1619 members.  This does not include the late registration from the February Clinic.  Dick also noted the change in late registration for coaches.  A coach may join late by paying $50 for his membership.  His players are eligible to play in the All-star game, but the coach may not vote at the meeting.

 

 

John Nemec – Big 33

Noted that the host Hotel is the Holiday Inn east Harrisburg.  Mini Cam is set for May 19th at OSU.

 

 

Dick Kerschbaum – All-Star Report

Dick reported that mini-camps have been set.  Directors need to get coaches with players in the game to get their regional sponsorships to Mike Mauk.  Wally Hood reported that everything was set at Otterbein.  Hammer Strength donated T-shirts for players and coaches.

 

 

Committee Reports

Computer playoff – Don Bucci reported that the committee discussed the problems that Thom McDaniel brought up.  The committee was going to ask the OHSAA to run the program using double points for 1st level points and half for the 2nd level.  Example:  12-10-8-6-4-2 1st level points; 6-5-4-3-2-1 2nd level.

 

Scholarship – Steve Trivisonno reported that the OHSFCA would award 68 - $500.00 scholarships and $1000 scholarships. This is a total of $39,000.00 in scholarships. (You can see a list on our website.)

 

Publications – Jim Barre noted that there was discussion on next year’s program honoree.  It was alsso reported that the OHSFCA would be linked with the Ohio High School Football Report. 

 

 

New Business

Tim Hinton discussed the survey that was voted on at the clinic.  He felt that the board should approve this before being put to a vote.

 

Dick Kerschbaum recommended that Bob Brigati become the All-start game coordinator.  Motion was made and second and passed.

 

Next meeting June 21st at Easton Hilton at 10:00 a.m.
